Update from Cancer Center: Umm..you're pregnant..
O.k., not quite. The lab results are in, and we had our first consult with the oncologist in Hamilton today. The good news is that for the time being, I don't need chemo. I'm waiting for the results of the blood test to confirm the cancer markers in my blood are decreasing. If not, I would start a course of chemo. Otherwise, I won't need either chemo or radiation. It also turns out my particular cancer has 3 components. One component is called an "embryonic" cancer cell - kind of like an evil twin to a stem-cell, which like stem-cells in a fetus can transform into any other type of cell (eg. nerve, skin, etc.). It also started producing HCG (pregnancy hormone) because there were "fetal" cells in my system - which means it would actually show up on a pregnancy test. Ah yes . . . now I officially have a medical reason for my girlie-scream!
So, we're just waiting for the results of the blood test (hopefully by next week), and then check-ups every 6 weeks after that.
